Planning for success
John L. Beckley once said, “Most people don’t plan to fail; they’ve just failed their planning” (Free Adaptation) You’re looking at an expansion project for your business or you want to find solutions to be more mobile and perhaps even teleworking. Maybe you want to keep up with market trends or optimize your work structure? Plan ahead!
An expert to your rescue
Start by establishing the parameters of your project. The average entrepreneur is not an IT expert, so you may need to use external resources to help you achieve your goals. Unless you already have access to an in-house service, the specialist you choose must have the knowledge and experience to complete the project. It will also have to work with those who are involved in the decision and those who will be affected as well. IT is the heart of your business. It should always be an integral part of your planning.
A key stage
Planning and assessing your needs can take a while. But a good schedule will allow you to make wise choices, to avoid monetary losses and service stoppages. Sometimes change isn’t physical, like when you’re looking for software to make your company’s processes easier to optimize employee tasks. Once again, the services of experts can help you in the realization of technological projects. Networking can also be a way to learn about the tools used by other businesses facing the same situation.
Plan B
Once a year, you should sit down and reassess your IT needs. Perhaps you are planning to expand or decrease operations. Your equipment may no longer be adequate. A department of your company may be experiencing a computer problem that has not been reported or resolved. It’s time to look into it. Also think of a “Plan B”: in the event of a breakdown, which resource will you be able to turn to to to continue operations? Do you have a redundancy plan for your equipment? You don’t have to be an expert, as long as you have qualified professionals.
Expert’s advice
Without the critical expertise and resources to stay at the forefront of new technologies, you may miss opportunities and be overtaken by competition. My suggestion is to involve your experts early on in your projects.
